Measles Outbreak

There is a highly contagious outbreak of measles in the UK at the moment which is spreading rapidly. One of the best ways to protect your child against diseases like measles, rubella, tetanus and meningitis is through immunisations. As well as protecting your own child, you’re also protecting others by preventing the spread of disease.

The first symptoms of measles include: high temperature, runny or blocked nose, sneezing, a cough, red, sore and watery eyes. Followed by a RASH that starts on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.

The rash looks brown or red on white skin. It might be harder to see on brown and black skin. Some people may also get spots in their mouth.

Vaccinations are offered free of charge in the UK – and you should receive notification when your child is due a routine vaccine by your GP practice.

If you can’t remember if your child has had their MMR vaccines, check their personal child health record (red book) and speak to us to book their first or second dose.
